Achieving success takes more than wishful thinking; it requires positive thinking. Thankfully, a positive mental inclination toward accomplishment and achievement can be developed. With these four keys, you can maintain the attitude needed to reach higher levels of personal success.
Zig Ziglar once said, “Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude.” Whether we want to build our own business, attract our perfect mate, write a best-selling book, or raise $50,000 for our favorite charity, success requires a positive mindset. Here are four keys to create and sustain a positive mindset for reaching the success we desire.
1. Keep company with successful and positive people. Other people can have incredible influence over our own personal energy. That’s because moods and attitudes can be contagious. A smile from a perfect stranger, for example, unexpectedly makes our day; magnify that impact 1000 times and we can begin to see the power of positive and successful friends, family and associates. When we surround ourselves with people who inspire us, believe in us, and want us to succeed, there’s no room for self-doubt.
2. Repeat positive affirmations daily. Research has shown the impact repeating positive affirmations has in helping people get through tough times. That’s because repeating positive affirmations on a daily basis helps people believe what they’re saying about themselves. For example, many of the most esteemed business professionals have used the same affirmation strategy to attain their success by simply repeating and believing, “I am building a powerful and profitable business.” We can find the right affirmations by writing down a quick list of our doubts and insecurities. By saying the opposite, we turn these into personalized affirmations.
3. Capture negative thoughts. It’s natural to have negative thoughts once in a while. However, frequent negative thoughts and emotions can derail us and prevent us from achieving our heart’s desires. When we find ourselves thinking negative thoughts or having negative emotions, we can find a trigger to turn them around. Affirmations are a great way to turn the negative into a positive. Quick exercises like listening to a favorite song, taking a walk outside in the fresh air, or twenty minutes of physical exercise will also help improve our moods.
4. Maintain an attitude of gratitude. Gratitude is perhaps the single most powerful and positive tool for success. When we’re grateful for all of the wonderful things and people in our lives, the challenges we face seem significantly less important and easier to deal with. Consider keeping a gratitude journal and make a practice of writing in it daily. A quick review of the blessings in our lives will help us more confidently press onward through the challenges. It’s an attitude of gratitude that enables us to navigate change, overcome setbacks, and meet the needs of others more easily.
Ephesians 4:23 reminds us to make new the attitude of our minds. Success is within our reach and with the right mindset we can accomplish anything we set our sights on. By embracing these four powerful thought strategies, we can build better, more satisfying lives.
